Donnis F. Whaley, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019 at Sumner Community Hospital in Wellington at the age of 80.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whaley will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 26, 2019 at the First Christian Church, Wellington.

Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington, KS.

SRMC announces reduction in staff

 WELLINGTON,Kan. - The Health Care Authority Board of Wellington authorized SRMC management to proceed with a reduction in staff.

The changes were made after careful consideration was given to preserving services SRMC provides to the community, and were made after receiving input from the medical staff. 
SRMC President & CEO Les Dean said “The cuts were necessary and will have minimal impact to patient care.” 
The reductions were effective immediately.

Vandalism suspects in custody

WELLINGTON, Kan. - Wellington Police have identified two juvenile males, currently in custody, responsibility for the recent rash of vandalism in our community.

Investigators are currently preparing paperwork to be presented to the Sumner County Attorney’s office later this week.

WELLINGTON, Kan. - Wellington Police is requesting the communities assistance locating and/or identifying the person(s) responsible for an overnight rash of vandalism. Numerous downtown business windows to include vehicle windows were damaged on March 31, including windows on the Wellington Police DARE vehicle.

Police are currently investigation and reviewing video surveillance. Any information you may have contact the Wellington Police Department at 620-326-3331, Wellington Sumner County Crimestoppers at 620-326-3135 or Sumner County E911. A reward has been offered

"Shame of Tombstone" opens next week in Wellington

The Wellington Community Theater is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their latest project, "The Shame of Tombstone." Performances will take place at the Memorial Auditorium April 7 and 8 at 6:30 p.m. and April 9 at 1:30 p.m. For ticket information contact the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce during normal business hours.
