The Crusader Basketball Program was on the road to Clearwater Friday evening - overall results were good! The Boys "C" Team won their 2nd game in a row, the JV Boys battled hard but were edged out by their Indian counterparts and the Varsity Girls and Boys and JV Girls - all put up "W's" from the trip away. This coming week will be all HOME action for our "5" basketball teams.
There was season opening action on Friday for the WHS Track & Field Squad - about "50" Crusaders headed off to Clearwater for their annual "participation" meet. Other schools present included Cheney, Medicine Lodge and Conway Springs. The weather wasn't as bad as it has been at times in the past for this "FIRST" track meet of the season but it was windy and chilly and as the sun got lower in the sky, it only got chillier.
Weather-wise, on the way to Clearwater Tuesday you felt like you were on your way to a track meet or baseball game! Short-sleeves were all you needed for the trip over - only slightly cooler at games' end later in the evening.
There was double dual wrestling action Thursday evening at Clearwater High School featuring host Clearwater, Wellington, Mulvane and Andale. The Crusaders would lead off vs Andale and win easily 72-10...Andale is in a 2 day large invitational at Basehor-Linwood on Friday and Saturday so they opted to send mainly JV wrestlers and "6" open weights to Clearwater thus the unusually lopsided outcome in the opener. They lost by a similar margin to Mulvane.
The weather was picture-book perfect Friday evening at Sellers Park for the 2016 Irondukes season debut, hosting their league opponent Clearwater Indians. Zero wind and awesome temps made at least that aspect of the evening pleasant and enjoyable. A large contingent of Crusader Fans were in the stadium, the west side nearly full with RED being the dominating color! Clearwater brought a good following of their own - burgers were frying and the atmosphere was set!
Spring Sports is almost always known for "CHILLY STARTS" - once you get into the season a couple weeks or so temperatures start to warm up usually. It was "chilly" in Clearwater Friday at their season opening Participation Invitational Track Meet but when the sun popped out it warmed considerably. The wind, as has been the case now for a couple of weeks was the worse culprit. It seemed to diminish some though as the meet progressed. Definite "Jacket" weather though!
